SONDER TEAM

My passion is energy.

I earned my BA as a studio art major at Roanoke College and later graduated with High Honors from The Culinary Institute of America. My professional cooking career began in NYC in hotels, fine-dining restaurants, and behind the scenes at The Food Network. I gave up my big city job to follow my husband’s career with the Foreign Service and start our family. We’ve lived in France, Russia, and Lithuania before settling down in Maryland.

I first began practicing movement in a former Soviet dance studio when we lived in St. Petersburg, Russia. The ballet preparatory class taught me that discipline, strength, and alignment were only celebrated if tucked under the wing of artistry and moving to music. Learning ballet in Russia was so special: what made the biggest imprint was knowing that my fellow expats would walk through snowy city streets every week to be there together and practice something that was new and beautiful to us.

We are all living energy fields: creating a space where our collective energy can be shared and reflected is most important to me. It is the why behind Sonder Whole Fitness.

I am honored to have such passionate professionals on the Sonder Team. Sending sincere gratitude to our students for trusting us to lead them through their movement practice.

Dog mom to 2 crazy pups who I enjoy spending my free time with. Whether it’s taking them to the beach or just playing in the backyard. I love taking any type of group fitness class and will never turn down the opportunity to workout. I moved to Calvert in 2017, where I met Megan and started taking Barre and TRX classes. After that I immediately fell in love with both workouts. I was TRX certified in 2018 and have since loved training and educating clients on everything TRX has to offer. I can’t wait to complete my Barre certification as well and be able to share my love for Barre with everyone else.

I am a mother of two grown boys and a military spouse of over 29 years.  I began my practice in 2006 and quickly realized the physical, mental and emotional benefits that yoga offered.   I completed my yoga training in 2013 while living in Seagrove, FL and have since taught class in both group and private settings in Panama City Beach, Tampa and the Washington DC area.  Yoga has allowed me to develop peace, balance, strength and flexibility in all aspects of my life.  My goal in teaching is to help you move your body enough to find the quiet space between your thoughts, seek acceptance in the moment and build confidence in your practice.  My classes are fluid, keeping you on your toes! You wont know where the time has gone! I will help you find balance, build strength, find flexibility and developing inner peace and contentment.

Doctor of Physical Therapy

I was born and raised in Colorado, and have loved movement and fitness my entire life. I started out as a competitive gymnast, then transitioned to dance and classical ballet. I danced through college both on our club Dance Team, as well as choreographing and dancing in our annual ensemble. I decided I wasn’t going to make a career out of dance, but loved anatomy and how the human body worked, so I chose to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. I graduated with my Doctorate in PT in 2007 from Northwestern University, and have been practicing in hospitals and outpatient centers since then. I have moved cross-country several times as a Coast Guard spouse, I am a mom of two, and dog mom of one.

I developed my love for Yoga in 2009. I loved how it made me feel both energized and calm, lean and strong. I continued a studio and home yoga practice as I was able while raising two kids and moving around, with the thought in my head that perhaps I would become certified to teach, and transition to a career where I got to geek out about anatomy and human movement through both yoga and physical therapy. I am also passionate about running. I have run 3 marathons, and 5 half-marathons. Running started out as a way to explore new areas, and is a meditative experience for me. My yoga practice compliments that. I finally took the leap to become certified to teach yoga in 2021, and am very excited to bring both my passion for movement and my rehab expertise to the Sonder Team. I love to challenge myself and others, and I love inversions.

Fitness is a way to confidence and wellness, and my favorite thing about my role in your class is being an encourager and watching you feel the endorphin high and become impressed with yourself. I enjoy spending time with my husband, 2 teenage boys, and my dog. I love traveling to new places, experiencing other cultures, and anything to get out of routine. Exploring the city, mountains/hiking, getting out in nature, eating spicy food at interesting restaurants, and enjoying a cocktail or cup of cappuccino are all things that light me up! I keep moving so I can continue exploring for years to come!

Kariann CAMPBELL

Barre & Soul® Certified Instructor

I have lived in Maryland all of my life. I attended Salisbury University and earned a degree in elementary education. I have taught first and second grade since then. Besides enjoying spending time with family and friends, I am always up for a road trip, listening to live music, and being outside. I took my first barre class in 2016 as I was looking for new ways to stay active. Barre provided me the ability to set aside time for myself. Focusing on the mind-body connection and proper form allowed all other thoughts to fade away. The group classes provided the structure and community I desired in a workout. Since 2016, when I first met her, Megan has continued to inspire my fitness journey - helping me establish individual challenges and goals, taking her online classes during COVID, and then rejoining in person classes at Sonder in 2021. I am grateful to be part of the Sonder community and look forward to working with clients to find proper form and embrace the shake.

Carter SEATON

TRX® Yoga Certified Instructor

I grew up in North Carolina, then moved to the DC area, and eventually to Calvert County after college. I enjoy spending time with my husband, almost teenage son, and our pets. While my day job is in government contracting, I have always been a fitness enthusiast. Yoga has been part of my routine for over 20 years and is a great complement to the other activities I enjoy – running, cycling, weightlifting, and backpacking. I started running after my son was born as a way to take time for myself and have run 6 marathons and countless shorter races.

I joined Sonder in 2021 and discovered TRX Yoga, which I love because it brings a level of accessibility to the practice that may not be available in a typical yoga class. I’m excited to share this practice with you!

Kelly MATTHEWS

RYT® 200hr Yoga Instructor certified through Yoga Alliance

I grew up in Deale, Maryland and moved to Northern Virginia to begin my career in Public Accounting after college.  I turned to yoga after an excruciating work schedule left my back immobile from too much stillness and an old injury from horseback riding. I found a studio in the DC area specializing in hot power yoga, and I finally found a practice that spoke to me on every level. After almost ten years living in Arlington, my husband and our dog moved back to Deale to be closer to family and closer to the water. Within a few months I found Sonder and was able to continue my favorite hot power yoga practice and earn my teaching certification through the Aster YTT. Yoga is now part of my day to day life from the physical asana to how I conduct my meetings at work. My classes are energetic, flowing, and almost always set to a playlist that keeps you moving. I can't wait to share this practice with you and meet you wherever you are on your own journey.

Jessica RAPIER

RYT® 200hr Yoga Instructor certified through Yoga Alliance

My path to yoga has not been linear. I began my training at a ballet studio in coastal Massachusetts and went on to receive a BFA in Dance from California State University Long Beach. Uninterested in dance as a career, I joined the Peace Corps and later earned an MFA in Theater Design from the University of Texas at Austin. After teaching Lighting Design at Baylor University, I relocated to the DMV area with my husband and two daughters. It was then that I took my first yoga class. And it felt like home.

My decision to earn my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate through the Aster Yoga Teacher Training Program in June 2023 felt like a natural next step in my lifelong journey of learning. I am passionate about the liberating nature of intentional alignment and the healing capacity of mindful movement. As a yoga and meditation instructor, I am dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive space that honors each student’s practice of self-discovery. I am incredibly honored to be a part of the Sonder community.

I was born and raised in Maryland and I’ve lived in Calvert County with my wife and two children for 8 years. It has become home. I’m likely the biggest Beatles fan you’ve ever met, I love art in all forms, and I can’t go a day without being outside. As my yoga practice has progressed and has helped me to find myself, I’ve been called to share my love of yoga and meditation with others. I am a graduate of the inaugural Aster Yoga Teacher Training class and I am honored to be able to teach something I love to people in this community, doing my best to bring more peace and love to the whole world.

I am a mom of two amazing boys, one beautiful speckled beagle, and a handsome orange cat. I grew up in a small town in Southwest Oklahoma, where I was active in sports and loved cheerleading and playing basketball. I attended college at the University of Central Oklahoma, where I earned a degree in Criminal Justice.

I am an Army spouse. Thanks to the military, my family has had the great privilege of residing in several different states. We were even blessed with the opportunity to live in Africa for a couple of wild and adventurous years. At long last we landed in Calvert County, Maryland, in 2020.

I have always had a love for fitness and I seek out movement modalities that spark my joy and allow me to find artistic and athletic expression. I began yoga in 2014 in an effort to increase my flexibility, but I immediately and inevitably fell in love with everything else that yoga had to offer, including the mind/ body connection aspect of yoga and the accessibility of the practice; whether my worst day or best, whether in community or alone, I can practice yoga in some way or form.

I’ve been practicing yoga and barre at Sonder ever since moving to Calvert County, and I love being a part of the Sonder community. I earned my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification from the Aster Yoga Teacher Training Program in June 2023.

I believe that we can learn so much about ourselves through our yoga practice, and that movement is a celebration and exploration of our abilities as well as a celebration and exploration of our limitations. I love seeing magic created on the mat and I love sharing the joy of yoga with others. I am so excited to be a part of the Sonder Team!
